5 Stars Great for anyone into repairs.
I first purchased this product so that I could better understand my guitar and how to repair things to keep it top-notch. I have to say that I’m glad I purchased this product. It’s everything it said it would be in the description. It starts off most section with some details, such as why you should be doing so and so and the benefits of it. In addition to the intros it goes into the DIY and finally the meaty stuff, in-depth. Overall not a bad purchase for it’s price.
5 Stars A Beginner’s Bible
This is a “Must” for any beginner who wants to save money and actually enjoy the experience of being a guitarist. Now that I have this book, I actually do consider myself a true guitarist. I have pride when I tell my friends “I take care of my guitar myself”. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to build their own guitars from anything from kits to garage sale parts. It even tells you what to look for and what to bring with you when you go buy a guitar (on the DVD). From common problems with stringing acoustics, adjusting any neck problem, to how to paint any axe. Those who are more serious, will enjoy the shop tool and benches he (and his friends) shows you how to build. Yes, there is a lot of product placement- buy this, buy that- but it doesn’t require you to purchase anything. It just depends on how serious you want to get. I will own this book forever and will most likely purchase the next addition. I’m very pleased with this purchase.
4 Stars Great book, but would be nice to have better illustrations
I bought the second edition of this a few years ago and recently bought a Les Paul. I was trying to learn how to do a string change and setup on it. I think there are more drawings as opposed to pictures in this version, but I supposed the inclusion of a DVD is supposed to compensate for that. Overall it is very good information and a very good deal through amazon.
5 Stars Fantastic
I own a few guitars (lp and strats) and this book has become a regular reference guide for me when i am doing some cleaning/repairing on my own… also interesting reading if you care for the art of guitar making with all its bits and parts… A must have.. pretty much all bases covered in this book…
4 Stars Great beginners book on guitar repair.
I find this book has great information on about every aspect of guitar set-up and repair. It has quite a bit packed into it. Some of it I already knew, such as adjusting the truss rod and setting the intonation, but each area had a little tid bit that was a something I wasn’t entirely familiar with making every section worth while.
It doesn’t go into great depth on several subjects but others it does.
Although, if you need more depth on a particular subject then buying a book that deals with that area is best. (Such as refinishing)
Some areas were a little dated even though this is the 3rd edition.
Over all a great book.
