5 Stars BUY IT NOW!!!
Owned for 1 month.
Comes with very loud amp, clear sound.
Beautiful guitar.
Fantastic for beginners.
Comes with all accessories needed.
If you are getting this, make sure to buy a new 1/4 cable, because the one that comes with is terrible. Also get better strings (Ernie Balls are my preference).
It does require tuning and tremolo adjustments, so make sure to read guides on the net to figure those out.
1 Star fender starcaster package
I found this package to be very cheaply built. The volume control on the guitar goes from no sound at 0 setting to full at 1 setting. The amp is not that bad for the price but would not spend the money on a package like this again.
2 Stars The business of suckering in begginers…
First Guitar I ever bought. Started playing in January 09.
Pros:
Cheap (cost wise)
Comes with everything you need to play (in beginners sense)
You can play it.
Sounds good clean.
Cons:
Cheap (manufacturing wise)
Does not come with everything you need to play (In Intermidiate Sense)
Horrible Pick-ups (Bad pinch harmonics, dime squeels, and overall tone)
Tremolo Arm WILL break on you.
Amp WILL get a short or break on you.
No 2-hand finger-tapping (I hardly knew that was possible).
String Rattling.
High E-string hardly gets any tone.
You play one string you play 2 or three other strings as well.
Tuner breaks after 2 battery changes.
Playing under Drop D Tuning is out of the question (unless you like the string rattling)
Loses the ability to keep a tune after awhile (even after I added 2 springs to the bridge.
Picks were NOT built for alt-picking.
Frets are small.

Bottom-Line: This is for begginers.
You will regret it later.
4 Stars Just what i needed.
This was a good deal. For [...] bucks, i got my first electric. an amp, and anything else i’d need to start out. I had been playing acoustic for a while, and was looking forward to branching out. The Guitar fit my purposes- it was a pretty good guitar for a cheap price. Here are the pros and cons of the guitar:
Pros:
1) cheap
2) sleek looks
3) fairly good pickups
4) straightforward to use, no confusion with controls
Cons:
1) Bad strings
2) action needed adjusting
So, it was a good bargain guitar. The amp however, was a different story:
Pros:
1) Small, compact
2) Is loud for its size
Cons:
1) bad sound
2) can’t control the distortion gain
3) much unnecessary buzzing
4) not a very clean sound
The amp, overall was bad. You’ll have to get a new one. The other asorted bits that came with it were nice extras. The bag is sturdy and the picks nice, though the chord wore out soon and had to be replaced.
I would suggest this to anyone looking for their first guitar, nothing more than that though.
4 Stars Great Start For A Beginner Guitarist
I read all of the product reviews before buying this guitar and finally decided it would be worth the risk. And I was right, it was worth it. The shipping box came with a few dings in it, but the product is packed very well. There was absolutely no damage to anything inside the box. As a beginning guitarist, I think the product is excellent. The little amp seems to have a lot of volume and good tone, and the guitar is very well made from what I can tell. It sounds good, feels good, and plays very well. And contrary to everything I read, the frets are not sharp on the ends. In fact mine are beveled and smooth.
I do however have two small complaints. It seems like everyone has either the red or starburst colors, so I opted for the midnight blue. Well, it’s midnight alright. It’s so dark, that you need a really bright light or sunlight just to be able to tell it’s not black. And then it looks more of a dark purple than blue. My second complaint was a buzz from the 5th (A) string at the 6th and 7th frets. All the other strings played well, except this one at this location. I adjusted the neck three times and retuned the strings three times and now it seems to be fine.
I’m sure if you’re a master guitarist that has owned some really nice guitars you could find a lot of fault with the Starcaster. But for my money and level of experience, this was a great buy and a fantastic start on learning to play the guitar. I’m sure I’ll out grow this one and move up some day in both quality and price, but I’m also certain I won’t ever regret having started out with this guitar.
Would I buy it again. Absolutely. Would I recommend it as a good “starter” guitar for the price. Absolutely.
FOLLOW-UP APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH LATER…….
Okay, It’s August and I’ve had this guitar for almost a month now. I practice/play every night at home and I am EXTREMELY pleased with my purchase. I’ve read all the reviews about bad electrical components, cheap strings, sharp frets, piece of crap amp, etc., etc. but I have to disagree. I either got the ONLY perfect Starcaster that was made, or some of these other folks are just a whiny overcomplaining bunch that no one could satisfy.
- “Bad strings and strings breaking”…..I haven’t had a single problem and I play EVERY night.
- “Tone knobs don’t work”…..Both of mine work just fine.
- “Will not stay in tune”…..The ONLY time mine has been out of tune is when I adjusted the neck. I check it EVERY night before I play/practice, and it’s ALWAYS in tune.
- “Tuner breaks after a couple of uses”…..Have used mine about 25 times and it’s working fine, plus I’ve never replaced the batteries.
- “Bad pickups”…..I have played along with several online tracks and the sound out of my Starcaster has matched the sound from the professional tracts almost perfectly.
I could go on but I think you get the point. For under [...] this is a REALLY good deal! Don’t you dare think EC or BBK would find it their guitar of choice, but for a beginner model or home practice guitar, the one I purchased and received is awesome! And again, I was only slightly unhappy with the color blue, but it’s beginning to grow on me, lol.
I hope this follow up helps, and I hope as I said earlier that I didn’t get the ONLY good production model made. (I seriously doubt that’s the case.)
I’m really enjoying mine, and hope you enjoy yours too. ~ Black Sheep
